Question

1.

Essentially, there is no functional difference between an IPG1 (Integrated Pulse Generator 1) board and an IPG2 board.

2.

A consistent error message indicating that the TPS/IPG is not responding is most likely a bad IPG board.

3.

The IPG passes the gradient drive signals through the TYME II board to convert the TTL signals to fiberoptic signals. These signals are the sent over in parallel, to the gradient subsystem via the MDS link.

4.

The TPS won't boot up. You have the following error code and its brief description in the error log: Error EC2222135 "TPS IPG Board Power Up Error: Interprocessor Test --\n\ failed to get flag from CPU\ ". This error indicates the IPG board is bad.

5.

Any defective board in the TPS chassis could cause the VME bus to hang, and the Octane Computer will fail to boot up normally.

6.

The TPS won't download at all. Running ifconfig vd0 from a c-shell may be one possible solution.

7.

TPS Datapath diagnostics fails, and the "Ready" lights on both of the fiberoptics modules and the Bit 3 boards are "on". The problem is most likely a bad fiber optics cable.

8.

After running datapath Diagnostics on the IPG an error code (TPS IPG BOARD - 2222620 LCA Hammer test failed. \n\) appears in the error log. This indicates a communication problem with the WARP section of the IPG board itself.

9.

If you are getting interprocessor errors, the most likely cause is the IPG board itself.

10.

You have just replaced the Bit 3 board and now the TPS does not download properly. The REM light blinks however. The problem could be related to an incorrect jumper placements on the new board.
